A young woman is brutally murdered, her body dropped into the sea and carried by the tides onto the beach at a federal park at the Jersey Shore. Hometown investigators believe the woman simply partied too hard and fell overboard, but FBI Agents David Owens and Anna Parker know better. David and Anna trace the victim's path from a local adult club to a dangerous and shadowed world that forces them under cover, into performances that awaken their own desires, and draw them closer to the killer. Soon they are racing against a clock set by an unknown enemy, compelled to carry out a plan that not only jeopardizes their lives, but tests their very beliefs, and their newfound love.

FBI Agent David Owens is in a bad mood. A month after his parents were killed in a plane crash, he’s called in on the first day of his vacation, and partnered with Anna Parker, Miss Tight Ass, to work a murder. Together, they have to discover who viciously murdered a young woman and tossed her body into the Atlantic. Their search leads them to a BDSM club then then to human trafficking. The more they dig, the deeper they go into a more treacherous world than they expected.Author Leah St. James writes a suspenseful story that will send the reader on an edge-of-the-seat action ride. She handles the bondage, dominance, sadism/masochism aspect in a non-salacious and non-judgmental fashion. David is well-drawn. The reader knows about his background and what he’s thinking. What you see, is what you get. Not so much Anna. St. James makes the reader wonder, like David, who she really is. For good reason. Be prepared for more twists than a mountain road with surprises around every curve. Well done, Ms. St. James.

Surrender to Sanctuary The Way Leah St James Kim Mendoza 9781601547507 Books Reviews
When Special Agent David Owens is partnered with Special Agent Anna Parker, he cannot figure out why. This is the first of the "what is going on" questions he has to answer along with why they are investigating an alleged drowning in New Jersey, how this case became top FBI priority, and most important of all can David keeps his passion for Anna under control.
After arriving on the scene David and Anna realize something is beyond not right on the shores of New Jersey. The woman was brutalized then dumped like yesterday's rubbish but those are the first of the red flags going off in David's mind.
When the investigation starts to go deeper into the details, and uncover the horrors of discovery are more than even hardened FBI agents are used to. Human trafficking is not where David or Anna thought the investigation was leading but once it takes them there, the steps to stop the nightmare will be done. Regardless of who is on their side, or will back them up David and Anna are partners during work hours and more importantly after they clock out.
This book takes a realistic look at the brutality of human trafficking and what steps everyone takes to stop it. The depth of Anna and David's characters come through on each page showing how a well-written story unfolds regardless of the content. There is also a twist that no reader will see coming.
I do not write many reviews cause I can normally find good in most reads. I did feel obligated to review this book because I am floored with all the 5 star ratings. I felt that it was misleading in so many ways. The good of the book is that it is descriptive with good editing. The bad which this will have some SPOILERS....and I am paraphrasing here...1.) Oh my old buddy that works at the FBI is here at this highly illegal slave human trafficing auction but it does not concern the bad guy in the least cause he admits to some major crimes but of course the FBI agent says he is not on official business... 2.) Or when an agent or a cop shoots bad guy in the shoulder but then throws thier weapon down to check on partner..or 3.) Next time don't drug me and kidnap me just ask me to go... oooh awwwe cause I love you...BULL..and there is just so much more things like this in the book that just makes you want to throw it down. Honestly that ruined the book for me but the had to give it some stars for the effort.
I was looking for a good beach/pool read but wanted something different from the usual formula and dialog...so decided to try a new author. I was delightfully surprised by the original story line and characters...the characters were well developed and empathetic. Good romantic suspense and humor. The plot was solid with great attention to detail so it was very easy to picture this in your imagination. The twists and turns in the story kept my nose buried in the book. And as an added bonus there were actually some themes in the book that had me pondering and questioning some of society's ironclad values...good fodder for discussion! Caution a few scenes in this book could put some "church ladies" panties in a knot!! I loved it!
Let me start by saying this author can really write. This is not one of those unedited messes. The plot is unusual, which adds to the interest. I would gladly read something else from this author.
I bought this book however, based on the subject behind the plot. Despite any research done the author clearly has no idea about BDSM and the real dynamics that make it work. The idea of only men as Doms is annoying, but the condemnation of that idea as 'soul crushing' shows a lack of any understanding.
Had this author written about something familiar to them it could have been five star all the way. Just wish the research for this book had included interview with real lifestyle people, including submissive men like me.
If you think 50 shades of gray is the real thing you will love this book. If you are really in the lifestyle you may be so annoyed that the good writing goes unnoticed.
